New Zealand's leading S&P/NZX 50 index concluded a turbulent session largely flat at 13,571 on Thursday. This followed the Reserve Bank of New Zealand's announcement of a significant rate reduction. The RBNZ slashed cash rates by a substantial 50 basis points to 2.5%, indicating the possibility of additional easing in an effort to stimulate the faltering economy. Among individual stocks, Meridian Energy saw an increase of 1%, Spark NZ rose by 0.8%, Ryman Healthcare surged by 3.6%, and Air New Zealand advanced by 0.8%. Conversely, Mercury NZ experienced a decline of 2.65%, Contact Energy decreased by 0.7%, Fletcher Building fell by 1.8%, Summerset dropped by 2.1%, and Property for Industry decreased by 2.7%. In other markets, U.S. stocks reached record highs on Wednesday. Minutes from the latest Federal Open Market Committee meeting revealed that while most members supported additional rate cuts this year, a significant number voiced caution due to ongoing inflation concerns.
