In August 2025, Germany experienced an unexpected 0.5% decline in exports compared to the previous month, reaching a seven-month low of EUR 129.7 billion. This follows a downward revision of a 0.2% decrease in July, contrasting with market expectations of a 0.3% rise. The drop was largely attributed to decreased demand from EU nations, which fell by 2.5%. Conversely, exports to non-EU countries rose by 2.2%, even though shipments to the United States suffered a 2.5% decrease due to U.S. tariffs. This marked the fifth consecutive month of decline in exports to the U.S., with values dropping to EUR 10.9 billion—the lowest since November 2021. On the other hand, exports to China saw a 5.4% increase, and those to Russia surged by 53.5%.
